YOUR REGISTERED DIETITIAN RESOURCE

A REGISTERED DIETITIAN (RD) IS AN EXPERT IN HUMAN NUTRITION & HEALTH WHO HAS MET ALL THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA, EARNING THE RD CREDENTIAL:

  • Completed a Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree at a U.S. regionally accredited university or college or foreign equivalent, and coursework through an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) or Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP). This curriculum includes heavy coursework in human nutrition, anatomy, physiology, biology, and chemistry.

  • Completed At least 1200 Hours of Supervised Practice through an ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program in Dietetics or an Individualized Supervised Practice Pathway (ISPP) offered through an ACEND accredited program.

  • Passed a National Examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. In order to maintain the credential, an RD must complete continuing professional educational requirements. Some RDs hold additional certifications in specialized areas of practice. Some of the certifications include pediatric or renal nutrition, sports dietetics, oncology, gerontological nutrition support, and diabetes education.

RD’s often work in clinical settings such as hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities, private practice, schools, supermarkets, corporate wellness, and as sports team consultants. RD’s may also be referred to as Nutritionists.
